Consumer/Discrimination/Racial Injustice Unit

Low-income households need strong, affirmative legal advocacy to challenge unlawful practices.

Predatory practices that target disadvantaged communities serve to destabilize individuals and families who have already limited means.

Northeast Legal Aid’s Consumer/Discrimination/Racial Injustice Unit assists clients with consumer issues ranging from student loan garnishment to disputes with auto dealers, and also handles wage and hour cases, employment and housing discrimination matters, as well as other racial injustice cases.

Northeast Legal Aid runs two weekly Lawyer for a Day sessions in Lawrence and Lynn's District Courts during the Small Claims sessions. Our staff attends the Monday morning Small Claims session in Lawrence and the Wednesday afternoon Small Claims session in Lynn. The Lawyer for a Day Program provides eligible consumers with free legal assistance, such as providing representation in trial, removing defaults, negotiating with creditor counsel, and more.
