Public Benefits Unit
Sometimes, low-income individuals and families are just one step away from crisis. A serious illness, injury, or workplace accident can suddenly leave a household without the means to support itself.
Our Public Benefits Unit works with individuals and families who are trying to get back on their feet, as well as those who need long-term assistance due to a disabling condition. We help clients navigate complex benefit systems so they can access the support they need to live with stability and dignity.
Our benefits advocates provide advice and, when appropriate, full legal representation in matters involving:
Disability benefits - Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
Unemployment benefits
SNAP (food assistance)
Cash assistance - Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children (TAFDC) and Emergency Aid to Elders, Disabled, and Children (EAEDC)
